Sternbergia greuteriana

A very fine species which in UK generally needs pot culture in an alpine house or cold frame protection to succeed, given that they usually grow without difficulty. The narrow yellow petals fully open in warm sunshine, quite unusual, 10cm.

Flowers similar to a large Crocus, golden-yellow with a satin sheen, 10cm from September to early November, glossy green leaves. Bold & beautiful. These autumn flowering bulbs would like a warm, sunny south facing aspect in rich well drained soil. Hardy.
